CALM Training
Suicide intervention training that gives people real skills.
CALM and CALM Care are practical, evidence-informed training programs that equip people to recognise when someone is struggling, ask directly about suicide and connect them with the right support.
What is CALM training?
CALM stands for Connect, Ask, Listen, Monitor. It's a structured approach to suicide intervention that gives participants a clear, practical framework for having one of the hardest conversations a person can have.
The training is designed for real workplaces — not just mental health professionals. It's for managers, supervisors, HR teams, safety officers and anyone who might find themselves in a situation where a colleague is struggling.
We know these conversations feel scary. The training is designed to reduce that fear by giving people a clear process to follow, practice in a safe environment and the confidence to act.
The CALM framework
Connect
Notice the signs that someone is struggling and voice your concerns — start the conversation.
Ask
Ask directly about suicide. Research shows asking the question does not increase risk — it opens the door.
Listen
Listen to their pain and listen for their hope. Reflect what you hear and hold space without judgement.
Monitor
Check on their safety, explore options, and introduce tools like the My Safety Plan app.
Two programs to suit your needs
CALM
Full-day programThe full CALM program provides in-depth suicide intervention skills. Participants learn to recognise warning signs, engage someone in a direct conversation about suicide, listen without judgement and connect them with appropriate support. Includes practice scenarios and debrief.
Suited for
Managers, supervisors, HR professionals, safety officers, team leaders and anyone in a role where they may need to respond to a colleague in crisis.
CALM Care
Half-day programCALM Care is a shorter, accessible version of the training designed for broader workplace rollout. It covers the foundational skills — recognising warning signs, knowing how to start a conversation and knowing where to direct someone for help.
Suited for
Frontline workers, general staff and organisations looking to build baseline awareness and confidence across a large workforce.

Why this matters in the workplace
Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44. Many of those people were in work. Colleagues and managers are often the first to notice when something is wrong, but most don't know what to do.
Research consistently shows that asking someone directly about suicide does not increase risk. In fact, it often provides relief. The barrier isn't willingness — it's knowing how.
CALM training gives your people that knowledge. It's one of the most practical investments an organisation can make in the wellbeing of its workforce.
